I was an
Interior architect by profession and one of my favorite projects was
working out the schemes for children’s rooms. There was a certain
joy in planning the layouts, the work areas, the beds, and the toy
shelves etc. Although these days bunker beds were popular in
children’s rooms, I personally preferred creating space without the
help of bunker beds. Somehow, I was not too comfortable with
children climbing up and down. There were greater risks, children
could fall, or hurt themselves while navigating the ladder.
And with
this thought in mind, I began making the drawings for yet another
children’s room project. Along with AutoCAD, I liked to have some
children’s websites open on my laptop. They give a complete picture
of a child’s world. Once I have made the plans using AutoCAD, I like
to experiment by adding children elements into the room layout to
get a feel of the real thing. The children’s websites are a blessing
in this regard, more specifically
eToys.com,
Disney Shopping,
and
LeapsAndBounds.com. From room décor, books, to toys and games, I
browsed through each of the sections to select what would best suit
the new room I had designed. So I added the books on the shelves,
pasted a pretty self adhesive wall border, scattered some toys
around the play area, and tucked in some soft toys in the kid’s bed.
There now, the room looked alive and complete. Of course, all these
were only sketches in the plan, nonetheless they painted a real
picture.
I visit
these sites mostly when I am working but they are a treat for all
young parents. They have a plethora of kiddies items and most of
them offer discount coupons. Coupon-B.com offers an on-going
15% off coupon
of Leaps And Bounds. I know of this couple who used one of
these sites to do up her little daughter’s room. The child was
particularly thrilled with the SpongeBob SqaurePants self adhesive
wall border.
In fact,
after I have designed the room, I often tell my clients to visit
eToys.com,
Disney Shopping,
and
LeapsAndBounds.com to get ideas and perhaps purchase items that
would augment well with the room design. For instance, there was
this one time when I had done up a room for a toddler, the crib area
seemed a bit vacant. So I asked my clients to visit one of these
sites to pick up something that could fill the space. And sure
enough, they found just the right thing – a ‘Hello Kitty – String
Light’ to brighten the room!
