We live in a small town away from the hustle bustle of the city. No big malls, fancy restaurants, or noisy night bars. Instead, our idea of good entertainment was to gather at a friend’s house and watch a good game of soccer or basketball. I was a bit of a player myself. I played for high school and won many a local laurel in basketball. However, I never went beyond that. After school, I got busy helping dad in the local grocery store and my dream of national basketball or even college basketball somehow got buried under the breads and eggs that we sold at our store.

Now I see the same dream in my son’s eyes. He has the talent for sure. And I am not going to shatter that dream no matter what the shortcomings are. Talking of shortcomings, the distance from the city was one. We didn’t have too many sports stores and since my days sports had become quite hi-tech. But I was not going to let that deter my son’s dreams. If he needed some sports gear, or the right shoes, he will have it - even if that meant long drives into the city.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to do any of this. This age is blessed – blessed with the IT boom. No city is far or near anymore and you now had global stores – stores that can be accessed by anyone anywhere. Isn’t that wonderful? I am so glad for my son – he can live the dream that I once only dreamt!

I visited some of these global stores. There was Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fogdog, The Sport Authority, ESPN Shop, the NFL shop and the NBA shop. All well stocked with the latest sporting goods. From jerseys, shoes, caps and gloves, they had it all. I was as excited as my son as we browsed through the sites together. We soon learned that we could also avail of discounts if we had the right coupons. A quick detour and we were at the discount coupon sites where we picked up what we needed. And within minutes we were back at our good old sports stores. My son selected a pair of sneakers that he wanted for a long time, while I picked a couple of jerseys that would look good on my lad.

And with one hurdle out of the way, we were confident that his dreams would turn to reality, come what may!
