Gift basket -
Palatable plate

Bent over
my laptop screen, I was completely engrossed in picking the right
gift items for the forthcoming Easter celebrations. I just loved the
gift baskets available at
Mrs. Beasley’s.
It had some mouth watering brownies, cookies and muffins. And as I
hopped from Mrs.
Beasley’s to
David’s Cookies, I picked some more of their delectable
eateries.
I was so
wrapped up in this activity that I didn’t notice my granny walk up
behind me. “What are you doing honey?” she asked. “Nothing gran,
just picking up some goodies for the Easter celebrations” I said.
“What?” my granny exclaimed. She couldn’t for the life of her
understand how one could pick up goodies from a laptop. I knew what
she was going to say. Back in the good old days, every festival was
a celebration in the true sense where people began the preparations
days in advance. They soaked the grapes, kneaded the dough, added
the cocoa and actually baked the sweets. It was almost a community
thing where all women folk participated in baking some of the most
sumptuous goodies…
Well,
firstly we aren’t in that age. Secondly, we didn’t have the time.
And thirdly, most of us didn’t know how to bake! But that doesn’t
dampen our festive spirits. Thank God, we have the
Mrs Fields,
Mrs Beasley’s
and David’s
Cookies. They have the cookies and the brownies, the chocolates
and the nuts. They even have cheese and wine. So there you go, just
because we live in a jet set age does not mean we can’t enjoy the
sweets that festivals are made of.
This
Easter was special. My fiancé and his family were coming to spend
Easter with my folks. So I didn’t want to take chances. I wanted
everything to be perfect. Hence, I was pouring over my laptop trying
to finalize their gift baskets. And I was not worried that there
were no coupons for some of the items I selected. I could also use the
coupons for the gifts for office.
I could
see my grandma was visibly amused. I think she missed the hurry
burry that surrounded festivities in her time. But I guess the hurry
burry was still there, just in a different way.
